Why is the parent company now named Meta?
On October the 28th, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook would change to “Meta,” according to Metaverse. So what does that word mean, and why did the owner of Facebook change the name now? Many questions are being asked on the internet, and a lot of them are making assumptions already. But let’s take it to step by step, Facebook has had a lot of negative publicity recently. In April 2021, there was a data breach of 530 million users.
A single umbrella for the Meta community
Remember in our previous blog, and we mentioned that Facebook corp owns 91other companies. The social networking platform will remain under its name Facebook. But the parent company, which was Facebook Corp, is now called Meta. Meta is shifting the world into a digital era. Everything you can think of will be digitized. Even the things you thought it would be impossible to see in reality will now be in front of your eyes. That is because Virtual Reality (VR) technology is coming to social media.
The Metaverse
Many people do not know the “Metaverse” and why Facebook chose such a term to describe its parent company. Metaverse is virtual reality; what gamers do in video games will now be accessible to all social media users. We are already wondering what the actual world will look like once people switch from reality to virtual reality. Everyone is already on their phones all the time. You can barely see a person that does not have his phone with him. People eat, sleep, and exercise with their phones next to them. So, now with the new access to the virtual world, how will they do their daily activities? Will they be able to eat with the VR headset on?
The Presence
We spend most of our time online—Working, gaming, shopping, surfing the web, and a lot more. But we are not presently doing those activities. That is what Meta will allow the user to feel present in the virtual world. For example, you will enter your company’s virtual office, sit at your desk, look around, and you will find your colleagues. Attend meetings with them in the room. All this was not possible even with the emergence of video calling technology. It must be so creative of a company to create such a platform. We can not imagine how many companies will leverage this technology. A virtual community in a headset, how amazing is that!
If your office is in the business bay and you’re running late for the meeting, all you got to do is park somewhere and wear your headset, and you are in the office. If you are always busy and find it challenging to take weekly yoga classes, your instructor will be available at your house virtually and right in front of you.
Facebook explains the meaning of the Meta brand
In a corporation blog post, Facebook’s—er, Meta’s—layout crew explained that the symbol is supposed to morph constantly:
“[T]he Meta symbol forms a continuous loop that works seamlessly between second and 3-D contexts. It’s miles designed to be skilled from unique perspectives and interacted with. it may resemble an M for “Meta,” and additionally at times an infinity sign, symbolizing limitless horizons inside the Metaverse.”
That overused infinity symbol
It’s futile to judge a logo’s efficacy at first glance, but early reactions are predictably snarky. Critics are fixated on the infinity symbol, complaining that it’s derivative and unoriginal.

Appearing on a search on his logo studies database LogoLounge, Gardner says he discovered almost two hundred trademarks that have featured a version of this graphic before. Danish graphic designer Maria Grønlund came up with a similar design for a startup that produces sleep trackers called Metta back in 2015.
Due to its ubiquity, Gardner predicts that Meta’s version will probably be the only one to stick in people’s minds. Shortly, it announced, “facebook’s [Meta] team will consume all the oxygen within the room when they put into effect this, and few folks will remember that everybody else turned into their first.”
A fascinating yet straightforward logo for the new name. Meta has made a brand new
CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the word ‘meta’ comes from a Greek word that means “beyond.” And the symbol of the logo, which resembles infinity, shows that there is always more to build. However, there is a viral post of a company claiming that Facebook stole its logo design.
The future of social networking
We have seen plenty of movies about the future that include self-driving cars, holography, and video calls. Surprisingly, all those inventions came to life. We can safely say that the impossible became possible, which is why the sky is no longer the limit. Everything around us is turning digital. It is even possible that we will one day be able to teleport. Meta might be on top of the technology list, but we are sure more is coming.
